Modern solar panels are designed for a 25+ year operational lifetime. Most manufacturers provide a performance warranty guaranteeing at least 80% of rated output after 25 years. Inverters typically have a shorter lifespan (10–15 years) and may need replacement once during the system's life.

What is net metering?+

Net metering is a billing arrangement where electricity you export to the grid is credited against your consumption from the grid. Your DISCOM tracks both import and export, and you pay (or receive credit) only for the net difference. What is the difference between on-grid and off-grid solar?+

On-grid (grid-tied) systems are connected to the utility grid and can export surplus electricity. How much subsidy can I get for rooftop solar?+

A typical on-grid system in India generates approximately 1,300–1,500 units per kW per year, depending on location, roof orientation, and shading. A 3kW system in north India generates roughly 3,900–4,500 units annually. Actual generation is always weather-dependent.

What ongoing maintenance costs should I expect?+

Routine maintenance costs are low. Cleaning 2–4 times per year (professional service or DIY) is the main recurring expense. Choosing an Installer

What is an MNRE-empanelled installer?+

MNRE (Ministry of New and Renewable Energy) maintains a list of empanelled channel partners authorized to install rooftop solar under the PM Surya Ghar scheme. Using an empanelled installer is mandatory to claim the central subsidy. Empanelment is a baseline quality filter but is not a guarantee of installation quality.

How many installer quotes should I get?+

We recommend getting at least 2–3 proposals and comparing them on equipment specifications (panel make, model, inverter brand), warranty terms, total installed cost, and after-sales service commitments — not just on price.
